Why You’ll Love This Recipe

  • High protein homemade salad dressing full of good-for-you ingredients!
  • Great way to get you and your family to eat more fresh veggies.
  • Serve it as a dressing over your favorite salads or a delicious dip alongside raw veggies.

What is Ranch Dressing?

Ranch dressing is an American salad dressing traditionally made with buttermilk, garlic, onion, fresh dill, and other spices along with mayonnaise, blended into a creamy sauce.

Trust me when I say, this healthy ranch dressing is so much better than store-bought ranch dressings (I’m looking at you, Hidden Valley Ranch.)

Recipe Ingredients

This healthy homemade ranch dressing is made with a handful of ingredients easy to find at grocery stores. Here’s a look at the main ingredients:

  • Greek yogurt – I used 2% plain Greek yogurt, but you can also use non-fat or full fat Greek yogurt or Skyr. You may need a but more milk to thin out the dressing if you use thicker full-fat or Skyr yogurt. If you would like to make this ranch dressing recipe vegan friendly, use a plant based yogurt like unsweetened coconut milk or soy yogurt. Note: For an ultra creamy ranch dressing, swap out half the yogurt for sour cream or add a touch of healthy vegetable oil, like avocado oil or olive oil.
  • lemon juice – any creamy salad dressing needs a bit of acid. In this case we are using lemon juice, but you can swap it out for apple cider vinegar instead.
  • stone ground mustard – stone ground mustard adds depth and helps the dressing emulsify. Dijon mustard is a good sub.
  • dried herbs – you can’t have classic ranch flavor without dried dill and dried parsley. Feel free to use fresh herbs instead and / or fresh chives, too.
  • garlic powder – a little bit of garlic elevates the garlic flavors we know as love.
  • onion powder – this is the secret ingredient in an easy homemade ranch dressing.
  • Kosher salt – to enhance all the flavors. A nice pinch of black pepper never hurt either.
  • milk – milk helps thin it out to a dressing consistency. Skip it if you are serving it as a dip with your favorite veggies, or use a plant-based milk or water for vegan.

How to Make

Homemade Greek yogurt ranch dressing takes less than 5 minutes! Here’s how I like to do it:

Whisk All Ingredients

In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together Greek yogurt, lemon juice, mustard, dried dill, dried parsley, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and milk until smooth.

OR, add all ingredients to deep cup or mason jar and use an immersion blender.

Taste Test

Taste test and add more salt, as needed.

If you would like a thinner consistency, add a couple more tablespoons of milk, 1 tablespoon at a time.

Use It As a Dressing or Dip

You can make this more of a Greek yogurt ranch dip recipe by omitting the milk. Talk about an easy recipe.

Some of our favorite ways to serve include:

  • Drizzle it over this plant based Cobb Salad recipe
  • Use it as a creamy dip for a vegetable tray full of carrots, celery, radish, tomatoes, and broccoli
  • Prepare it as a dipping sauce for baked veggies, like roasted brussels sprouts or rainbow carrots

How to Store

Easy homemade yogurt ranch is best stored in an airtight container or mason jar in the fridge for up to 1 week.

The dressing will naturally thicken over time in the fridge. Feel free to add milk or water to bring it back to the right consistency.

Recipe FAQs

What does yogurt ranch taste like?

The creamy Greek yogurt and pop of lemon juice add tang that you would get from a traditional ranch with buttermilk, and the dried herbs take it to the next level.

How many calories are in Greek yogurt ranch?

One serving (2 tablespoons) of this Greek yogurt ranch recipe is … calories, with … grams of protein. Check out more daily values in the recipe card below.

Does Greek yogurt and ranch seasoning taste good?

Creamy Greek yogurt and the right mix of dried herbs create a delicious salad dressing that tastes like a buttermilk ranch. Plus, you get the benefits of extra protein and healthy fats, too.

This dressing was delicious! So easy to make and both healthier and tastier than store-bought. I used homemade soy yogurt (with some of the whey strained out to better approximate Greek yogurt).
