How Fit Mitten Kitchen got Started
I started Fit Mitten Kitchen in the summer of 2015 as a way to share all of the recipes I was loving during my newfound way of healthy eating and living.
While I grew up in an active family, I was also a very picky eater. It wasn’t until my (now) husband and I moved in together after graduating college, that I wanted to start cooking meals from scratch and bake healthier desserts.
I honestly had no idea what that looked like though – eating healthy or home cooked meals… So I took to Pinterest and started finding resources on stocking your pantry with whole foods, better-for-you baking ingredients, and recipes for simple healthy meals.
Over the course of a couple years I tried all different kinds of recipes, new-to-me foods and found ways to tweak recipes to my liking. After I got the hang of things in the kitchen, I was surprised with myself how delicious (and easy!) eating healthy actually was.
And then I had coworkers and friends asking for the recipes I was telling them about or sharing with them. And this passion grew inside of me to want to tell anyone I could that eating healthy really wasn’t all that bad.
In fact, it was pretty damn good.
So here we are! Fit Mitten Kitchen was born and I get to share all of my favorite foods and recipes with you.
I truly enjoy finding ways to create delicious healthy recipes, and sharing those recipes in hopes to inspire others to love living healthy.
Healthy food CAN and DOES taste good, I promise.
I understand that being “healthy” is different for everyone. MY healthy may not be YOUR healthy, and that is perfectly okay. But I do believe a diet in whole foods and a lifestyle that includes exercise IS FOR EVERYONE. You’d be surprised at how changing your diet can alter so many different areas in your life. From noticing a change in your energy levels, to less headaches, to just having a more positive outlook on life. Food and fitness play such an important role!
On my blog you’ll find approachable recipes made with real ingredients. I don’t follow one particular style of dieting, because… well basically I like all kinds of foods 🙂
And I also understand what works for one person doesn’t work for everyone. Finding a balance that works for you personally is what’s important. I don’t really believe in juice cleanses, week long detoxes, or restricting foods for no particular reason. I believe in mindful eating, moderation, and just doing your best every day. From paleo to vegan to low-carb and everything in between, I feel there is room for it all.
Plus, I have a mean sweet tooth that I like to satisfy with some healthy baked goods.
