Mornings… Love ’em or hate ’em?
I will say I am a morning person. I’m not a “get up and go” super early morning person, but I definitely prefer mornings over nighttime. Mainly because I love breakfast and I like how the routine of a morning can help set the tone for the day.
Enter: Manitoba Harvest® Hemp Yeah! Granola.
This granola is loaded with 10 grams of protein, 3.6g of omegas 3&6, and high-quality ingredients like pumpkin seeds, chia seeds, quinoa and obviously Manitoba Harvest® Hemp Hearts. It’s also lower in sugar (8g added sugars) and actually comes with a generous serving size of 3/4 cup. No ridiculous 1/4 cup serving nonsense.
But before I go any further, let me catch you up on how my attitude towards breakfast and eating in general has changed…
Intuitive Eating and Redefining Breakfast
My morning routine has evolved over the years from working in corporate to working from home, but one thing is for certain: breakfast was and is always a necessary part of my morning.
But I used to wake up starving.
Which at the time I didn’t realize was a sign of under-eating. I was so hungry and couldn’t fathom when people said “I can’t eat breakfast first thing in the morning.”
I’d think, “Are you kidding me? I am SO hungry in the morning. Like, stomach cramping need to eat immediately, kind of hungry.”
But I wouldn’t actually eat enough in the morning to keep my satisfied. I used to eat several small meals or snacks a day, typically eating on a schedule every couple of hours. I believe I did this for 2-3 years. I was constantly hungry and I wasn’t giving myself the fuel or macronutrients I needed to feel sustained.
Slowly I started to understand what was going on…
Slowly I stopped putting my meals on a timetable…
Slowly all foods found their way back into my diet.
Slowly but surely I figured out how to eat until I was hungry, and stop when I was full.
Once I started learning how to eat more intuitively (and eating more food at each meal) I was able to reset my hunger cues. I felt satisfied at each meal and didn’t feel the need to snack constantly.
One thing that keeps me from feeling the need to snack throughout the day is starting my morning with a healthy, satisfying breakfast. I feel more focused, less distracted by food/hunger and full of energy to get GSD (work).
My 3 Favorite Go-To Healthy Breakfast Recipes
When it comes to a healthy breakfast menu I like to have a good amount of protein, complex carbs and fat. This combination typically holds me over until lunchtime.
Before I would likely cut out either carbs or fat from the combination but then I’d be hungry within two hours.
CARBS ARE YOUR FRIEND.
FAT IS YOUR FRIEND.
PROTEIN IS YOUR FRIEND.
They all work together to give you a satisfying meal and one that gives you ENERGY to fuel your day.
And Manitoba Harvest® Hemp Yeah! Granola does just that. The fact that this granola comes with a whopping 10 grams of protein per serving, along with 11 grams of heart-healthy fats and good carbohydrates makes for a winner in my book.
So my favorite go-to breakfast items to have with Hemp Yeah! Granola are:
- high protein yogurt and fruit
- whole grain english muffin slathered with nut butter and a side of fresh fruit
- baked sweet potato stuffed with yogurt and blueberries.
Granola is a constant here because it makes for such a great topping. You know when you just need to add that crunch factor? Hemp Yeah! Granola to the rescue.
It also comes in three flavors: Blueberry, Dark Chocolate, and Honey & Oats.
