Recipe Ingredients
This mixed berry salad recipe is made with just a handful of simple ingredients, for both the berry mint salad and the honey lime dressing. Here’s a bit more detail about what we need:
Berry Salad
All it takes is 5 ingredients for the berry base, including:
- fresh strawberries – look for bright red strawberries with fresh green tops and no signs of mold at the grocery store. For best results, hull and quarter the strawberries so they are roughly the same size as the other berries.
- blueberries – deep blue and plump blueberries add a delicious hue. Look for blueberries with their signature frost (known as “bloom”), which is a sign of freshness and quality. Also make sure to sort through the blueberries for any lingering stems.
- raspberries – exceptionally tart and sweet, make sure the pad in the bottom of the container is dry and moisture-free.
- blackberries – blackberries give this fruit salad an extra bite. Again, we want the moisture pad to be dry, with no signs of moldy or mushy berries.
- fresh mint – mint complements the berry flavor and really adds another level of brightness. Fresh basil is a great substitute.
Note #1 I do not recommend frozen berries for this recipe. Also, organic berries will come at an extra cost, so always go for whatever is within budget.
Note #2 – I typically will buy an extra container of both raspberries AND blackberries, as it’s common to have to sort through these containers and pick the firmest ones. Save any extra or super soft ones for smoothies!
Honey Lime Dressing Ingredients
For the homemade dressing, gather together:
- raw honey – use your favorite raw honey for the highest antioxidant content. Local raw honey is even better. You can also swap out the honey for maple syrup if vegan.
- fresh lime juice – lime juice goes so well with honey, but you can use any fresh citrus juice, including orange juice or lemon juice.
- poppy seeds – poppy seeds add a special bite. You can omit if you do not have any on hand.
- fine sea salt – just a touch of sea salt enhances the fresh flavor and natural sweetness in both the berries and dressing.

Try a Variation
While this easy fruit salad recipe is delicious as is, here are some of my favorite variations:
- Favorite berries – mix and match the berries to fit your style. Remember, you can omit any type of berry if you are not a fan.
- Green salad – if you want to make it more of a green salad, serve it over a bed of your favorite leafy green such as baby spinach, spring mix, or baby arugula with some candied walnuts and red onion. Replace the honey dressing with a drizzle of balsamic vinegar and olive oil, or Homemade Balsamic Vinaigrette.
- Cheese – give it a creamy component with a sprinkle of feta cheese, creamy goat cheese, or tangy blue cheese.
- Vanilla extract – a dash of vanilla extract takes this fresh summer salad to new heights.

Serving Suggestions
There’s really no stopping this summer berry salad from being served in any which way. Grab your favorite serving bowl and serve it as:
- Breakfast – spoon it over a bowl of vanilla Greek yogurt or dairy-free coconut yogurt, or just enjoy by the spoonful.
- Side Dish – it’s the perfect side dish to bring along to any party or BBQ, or serve it for a special occasion like bridal showers or birthday parties.
- Dessert – top it with a large dollop of whipped cream or spoon it over ice cream.
- Sangria – throw a handful into your favorite glass of wine and you have instant sangria!
How to Store Berry Salad
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days.
The dressing will drip to the bottom once stored, so give it a good stir just before serving. The berries will soften on days 3 and 4.
