Why You’ll Love This Recipe:

  • Only 6 ingredients to pure chocolate bliss.
  • Sneaky way to include healthy fats into dessert – and satisfy those chocolate cravings.
  • Pairing with your favorite fruits means you are getting additional fiber, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants.
  • Real ingredients, easy to throw together, and a dip everyone will love (yes, even kiddos)!

Recipe Ingredients

No special ingredients required, which means all with need is a handful of simple ingredients from grocery stores. For this chocolate avocado dip, we will need:

  • avocados – if you want to enjoy this fruit dip recipe sooner rather than later, make sure to grab ripe avocados if you can. Or allow the avocados to ripen at room temperature.
  • maple syrup – the liquid sweetener here keeps this as a delicately sweet recipe and vegan friendly. Free free to make it a little sweeter with extra maple syrup or coconut sugar.
  • cocoa powder  – make sure to use unsweetened cocoa powder, or swap it out for raw cacao powder. Note: The base of this dip is cocoa powder. Although you can use a different kind of chocolate, like paleo chocolate bars, and melt it in a microwave-safe bowl or mixing bowl over a pot of water to achieve the same chocolate dip taste, I have not tried this method myself. But let me know in the comments if you do!
  • vanilla extract – vanilla adds a nice dose of floral sweetness.
  • pinch of salt – a little sea salt is needed to enhance all that chocolate flavor.
  • non-dairy milk – optional, but the milk helps thin out the dip if it’s a little on the thick side. Use any dairy-free milk you have on hand, like almond milk, cashew milk, oat milk, or coconut milk.

Find the full detailed instructions with measurements in the recipe card below, at the end of this post.

How to Make Chocolate Fruit Dip

Chocolate fruit dip takes less than 5 minutes to throw together, which means it is the perfect healthy fruit dip to serve for a special occasion or just because. Here’s how I like to make it:

Add Ingredients to Food Processor

In a small food processor bowl or blender cup, add avocado, maple syrup, cocoa powder, vanilla extract, and salt.

ingredients in food processor for vegan chocolate fruit dip

Blend

Blend until smooth, scraping down the sides of the bowl or cup a few times with a rubber spatula.

Adjust Consistency (optional)

If the chocolate dip is a little thick, add 1-2 tablespoons plant-based milk to thin to your desired consistency. Process once more until you have a smooth and creamy dip. Transfer to a small bowl to serve.

Serving Suggestions

This healthy chocolate fruit dip is the perfect anchor to build a beautiful dessert charcuterie board whether you’re serving for friends and family, Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, or want to do something fun with kids! I love how the look of this board came out so here are our favorite ways to serve:

  • Fresh Fruit Platter: fresh strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, banana slices, apple slices
  • Healthy Snacks: graham crackers, crunchy cookies, salty pretzels
  • Homemade Treats: Vegan Chocolate Chip Cookies, Dark Chocolate Chunk Cookies
  • Extra Toppings: give it a little pizzazz by finishing with whipped coconut cream, vegan chocolate chips (I love Enjoy Life), vegan chocolate syrup, chopped dark chocolate bars, or orange zest
  • Nut / Seed Butters: use a butter knife to swirl in some peanut butter, almond butter, or sunflower seed butter

How to Store & Make Ahead

Leftover dip will keep in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 2-3 days. Because we’re using avocados, you want to make sure to place a piece of plastic wrap directly on the surface for ultimate freshness. Give it a good stir the next day and day after.

Making Fruit Dip for a Party?

If serving this easy vegan fruit dip to guests, you can prep the avocado chocolate dip the morning of, wash and dry berries, slice any fruit and build a board with cookies, graham crackers and pretzels, then tightly wrap and chill up to 2 hours.

I was a skeptic but I decided to give it a try since my nephews and my son recently started on a dairy free diet. Wow. This is AMAZING! My four year old said I should make it for lunch and snack every day. I halved the recipe and it turned out great! This recipe is a keeper for sure. I used water in place of plant based milk since I didn’t have any on hand.

Thank you for satisfying my sweet tooth, and helping me to keep “Grandmas house” a bit healthier for the grandkiddos as well!
We used this yummy treat as a dip for strawberries and bananas!
I also kept it around for my late night treat of frozen banana, cacao chips, raw coconut, organic peanut butter and your yummy chocolate sauce! It’s a faux ice cream treat that we just love in our home!
I’m making this recipe again today
    Thank you!!

Excited to try this!! Its going to be the sweet treat for the Super Bowl. I live in the Mid West and it can be difficult to get good sized avocados right now…any idea what the weight of the avocado should be? Or how much the measurement is once scooped out?

If you can’t find large ones, I would probably use about 4 small-medium ones. I’m not entirely sure about how much you’ll get per avocado but total amount of dip will be around 2 cups.

I don’t care for avocado, but I was curious to try because I have a friend who is vegan. The dip is absolutely delicious and decadent and would make again just for myself! I don’t use non-dairy milks, but happen to have Oat Milk in Dark Chocolate on hand (yum) and it worked out well. If it was just for me, I would use regular milk since you don’t need much.

Trying to avoid all sugar. Including honey, agave, and maple syrup. Do you think you could use stevia for sweetness and adjust the liquid? Looks like a great recipe to get my two year old to eat avacado and more fruit.

You probably could, just make sure you taste test as you go – stevia can be a little strong and I am not sure it would taste as good if you subbed completely for maple syrup.

You should be OK to make it a day in advance, I know I’ve kept it in the fridge for at least 3 to 4 days. Hope you enjoy!

I believe mine stayed fairly fresh for about 3-4 days – tightly covered. I would put plastic wrap down or something similar and then cover with lid.

Have you ever made this with honey or agave instead of maple syrup? Obviously it’s not vegan, but just curious 🙂

Hi Asha, I have not made it that way myself but I am sure it would turn out just fine! The only thing about honey is that is is not quite as sweet as the maple syrup. Agave is a little more similar to maple syrup. But you can adjust the amount of honey for more or less sweet to your liking. Hope that helps!

I ended up adding a banana and heaps more and sugar to get rid of the maple syrup taste!
I would say use half, if not less.
Way too sweet and maple syrupy.
