Chipotle Cheddar Turkey Burgers – great for grilling season. An easy burger recipe loaded with chipotle peppers in adobo sauce plus extra spices, topped with cheddar cheese.
Essentially we’re talking a pretty basic turkey burger recipe but packed with flavor thanks to the chipotle peppers and spices used. Don’t skimp on the spices with burger meat; it can really make a difference.
AND using the grill or a well-seasoned cast iron pan can help too. Drew refuses to grill meat in a regular pan and I have to say I don’t blame him –the grill does make it taste better!
However if you’re going to cook/grill meat inside, I’d recommend investing in a cast iron pan.
Are Turkey Burgers Healthy?
“Healthy” is a relative term but turkey burgers are leaner than beef and contain less fat.
Turkey Burger Ingredients
- lean ground turkey, 94% lean
- chipotle peppers in adobo sauce
- spices
- almond meal or panko bread crumbs
How to Cook Turkey Burgers
Making turkey burgers at home is super simple. You can use a grill or a grill pan inside.
- Prepare: In large bowl, combine ground turkey, diced chipotle peppers, spices, and almond meal (or bread crumbs). Divide mixture into 4 equal parts and gently shape into patties.
- Grill: Place burger patties directly on grates of preheated grill; cook on one side about 4 minutes before flipping to other side for another 4-5 minutes. Check middle for doneness, or until internal temperature reaches 165ºF.
Takes less than 20 minutes from start to finish!
Burger Toppings
We’re loading these guys up with cheddar cheese, tomato, mashed avocado and grilled corn – YUM.
Oh and I like to serve burgers with dark greens like massaged kale or spinach. But you can use whatever greens you have on hand.
Chipotle “Mayo”
If you really want to add some extra flavor, serve these with my chipotle “mayo”, from this recipe.
You just need:
- 3/4 cup raw soaked cashews in boiled water, drained and rinsed
- 1/3 cup water
- 2 TBSP lemon juice
- 2 TBSP chipotle adobo sauce (or 1 chipotle chili in adodo sauce)
- 2 tsp maple syrup
- 1/4 tsp sea salt
- 1 TBSP avocado oil or light olive oil
Blend everything until smooth!

Sounds good! Yes, here in the Pacific Northwest, we usually only grill during the spring/summer/early fall! It’s always sad to see it go but then it’s just that much more exciting when it starts up again! Healthy eating is so much easier and flavorful when a grill can be involved. These burgers look great!

I love this recipe for an easy, make ahead meal-prep option. Definitely on the spicier side so the avocado and corn are key to cooling it down. and i love the addition of the cheddar cheese. I don’t have a grill so I just baked them and they still turned out crispy and yummy
