Don’t wait and book your Up North Spring getaway in Traverse City! This amazing oasis has so much to offer year round.
One of my favorite places to visit no matter what time of year is Traverse City, Michigan. If you’ve never been, you must add this destination to your travel list.
Traverse City is located in the Northwest part of Michigan on Grand Traverse Bay, just a little over 2 hours north of Grand Rapids. It’s known for it’s amazing wineries, being Cherry Capitol of the world and within close proximity to Sleeping Bear Dunes.
The Perfect Hotel Stay
The Delamar Resort hosted a fun spring getaway for my sister and I – a much needed girls trip!
Some may shy away from from visiting Northern Michigan in early spring, but don’t let the weather deter you! There is still so much to do and fun to be had.
The Delamar Resort has a ton to offer with awesome year round experiences. They have an amazing outdoor pool heated to 93ºF that you can enjoy in the colder months, making it a great spring family fun getaway. I mean, what kid doesn’t want to swim outside in a warm pool when there is snow on the ground? I know my 10 year old self would think that is the coolest.
They also have fun Igloos to rent where you can enjoy an outdoor dining experience by the warm poolside.
There is also an indoor pool, hot tub and sauna as well if you’d rather stay inside!
Things to Do
There is lot’s to do in Traverse City and the surrounding areas, but a trip to Traverse City is hardly a trip at all without at least visiting the beautiful scenic views!
Wine Tour
The Delamar offers wine tours from the hotel which is so great! I highly recommend booking one if you can – it makes everything so convenient and no need to worry about who is driving to and from the wineries. My sister and I had a great time and our driver was so knowledgable.
We went to:
Mari – a newer spot for Traverse City with an incredible exterior and interior – it felt like a castle!
2 Lads – We loved the bubbly here. My sister is actually a wine club member.
Bonobo – Gorgeous views outside with wide open spaces
Bowers Harbor – A selection of both wine and cider. Bonus – it’s dog friendly.
Left Food Charley – Located in the former Northern Michigan Asylum, a unique area and fun interior
Dinner and Brunch at the Artisan
During our stay it was Restaurant Month, where many of the restaurants around town join in with menu special offerings. At the Artisan, we were able to enjoy their special three-course menu with Carrot Ginger Soup, Lamb Bolognese and for dessert we shared both Salted Caramel Cheesecake and Strawberry Rhubarb Cobbler – everything was amazing!
The Artisan dining experience was lovely with views over the patio and lake. Definitely recommend doing a meal at the Artisan! They also had a great breakfast and brunch menu we enjoyed as well.
Yoga on Site
I missed the time slot to try their yoga (hosted by Yen Yoga Fitness) but I did venture out to Luxbody Studios for an amazing HIIT style 30 minute workout. Highly recommend if you love group fitness workouts!
And if you’re a Peleton rider, Delamar has a Peleton bike in their fitness center, too!
Favorite Coffee Spots
One of my favorite things to do when traveling is visiting the city’s best coffee shops. My personal favorite is Mundos – they are located just a 5 minute from the hotel. They also have a location in Sutton’s Bay, if you’re venturing that way to explore more areas.
Exploring Downtown
There are tons of shops to walk by, browse, and more places to eat. Everything from trendy boutiques to Michigan focused apparel, ice cream (I love Milk & Honey), toy stores, book stores and more.
They also have a fun food truck area, The Little Fleet if you’re with a group and want to try different things!
More to Do Nearby
If you’re staying more than just a couple days, I highly recommend checking out some other sites nearby.
Here are a few recommendations to get you started!
- Leland (check out my travel post here!)
- Sutton’s Bay
- Sleeping Bear Dunes
- Point Betsie Lighthouse
