I don’t know about you, but typically when I try to buy Green Goddess dressing at the store, I am not a fan of the ingredients on the bottle. Say a version makes it into my cart and I try it at home, I just don’t end up loving the taste either.

Though I will say, I do love Panera’s Cobb Salad with their Green Goddess dressing, which inspired this healthy homemade salad dressing, along with the TikTok Green Goddess salad that has been floating around the internet.

I love making salad dressings at home because you can use simple ingredients, no added preservatives and they’re so simple to throw together. And they taste amazing!

What is Green Goddess Dressing

Green Goddess dressing is a salad dressing recipe named for it’s green hue, with its typical ingredients being mayonnaise, sour cream, lemon, chives, anchovy and tarragon.

However we’re making some changes to the traditional recipe by using some nutritious ingredients while also making this a vegan green goddess dressing.

Think, loads of greens, fresh herbs and lots of flavor!

Salad Dressing Ingredients

  • hemp hearts – I love using hemp hearts in salad dressing recipes! It makes it creamy, boost the nutritional value and is a great way to keep a recipe nut-free.
  • spinach – Spinach is another great nutritional boost for this green goddess dressing, with an excellent source of Vitamin A,C, Folic Acid, Iron and Calcium (source).
  • extra virgin olive oil – adds robust flavor and heart healthy fats. You could sub avocado oil as well.
  • basil & parsley – using both basil and parsley for lots of herby flavor.
  • tahini – adds a slightly unique flavor thanks to sesame seeds.
  • lemon juice – for tangy and bright citrus flavor. If you’re fresh out of lemon juice, substitute apple cider vinegar.
  • garlic – Just one clove is perfect.
  • coconut aminos – for a hint of umami flavor
  • maple syrup – to balance flavors and add just a teeny bit of sweetness.
  • fine sea salt – to enhance flavor.
  • water – to thin to your desired consistency.

Find the full detailed instructions with measurements in the recipe card below, at the end of this post.

Make it in a Blender

You have to use a blender or food processor (or immersion blender) to make this Green Goddess dressing recipe, because of all of the fresh herbs and spinach. You need the fine blades to make sure everything gets broken down and turned into liquid.

But it’s very easy to make!

Once you have all of your ingredients measured out, simply add everything to your blender cup and process until smooth.

Thin to Desired Consistency

I started with 4 tablespoons of water and then added a few more at the end. If you want a very drippy dressing, add about 1/2 cup water.

If you want to use this Green Goddess dressing as more of a dip or sauce, start with a 1/4 cup water and go from there.

Note: the dressing does thicken once sitting in the fridge. So feel free to add more water if you’re using any leftover dressing.

More Ways to Use this Dressing

I love this Green Goddess salad dressing on a Vegan Cobb Salad.

It’s also great as a dipping sauce for sweet potato fries.

You could easily add this to any warm pasta dish or pasta salad as well, with fresh tomatoes, mozzarella, maybe even do a version of this Caprese Pasta Salad!
