July is National Blueberry month and I love highlighting this perfect little berry. There are so many ways to use blueberries! Whether it’s in reader-favorite Oatmeal Blueberry Muffins, a Blueberry Banana Smoothie, Blueberry Overnight Oats or just simply throwing them onto a bowl of yogurt, blueberries can do no wrong.
For these chocolate covered blueberries, it’s a quick and satisfying way to enjoy both fruit and chocolate in one sitting.
Recipe Highlights:
- A healthy treat when you need a chocolate fix.
- A quick and easy dessert recipe ready in 30 minutes.
- Great activity to do with kids.
- Customize this recipe with the type of chocolate and toppings you use.
You just need three main ingredients to make chocolate covered blueberries at home:
- Fresh Blueberries (California Giant, of course)
- Quality dark chocolate chips (I use chocolate chips because I usually have them on hand)
- Coconut oil (this helps create a smooth drippy chocolate, but you could leave out if you need to)
TIP: Selecting quality chocolate baking chips will be important for getting the chocolate to melt well and not seize up. The coconut oil helps create a smoother consistency.

How to Select Fresh Blueberries
Here are some tips for when selecting blueberries at the store:
- Deep blue in color with a light, silvery powder (called bloom)
- Naturally plump with smooth skin
- Firm and dry, with no signs of fuzz, mold or mushy berries
Peak blueberry season in the United States is between early June and early August during the summer months, but California Giant has national and international growers that are able to provide us with the best berries year round.

Wash and Dry Blueberries
Prepare blueberries: Wash and dry blueberries, make sure they are completely dry by gently rolling them between tea towels and transferring to a clean, dry surface.

2

Chill: Place pan in fridge and allow the chocolate to set, about 30 minutes. Then dive in!

Optional Toppings:
Feel free to have fun with your garnishes for the chocolate topping. Little ones would love sprinkles. Flaked sea salt gives it a sophisticated feel. Orange zest adds another layer of flavor. Crushed freeze-dried fruit or pistachios are some other ideas.
