What You Need

For this homemade chili you need ground turkey, bell pepper, carrots, onion, sweet potatoes, garlic, tomato paste, tomato sauce, diced tomatoes beans, and spices.

In a large pot over medium heat add oil, onions, peppers, carrots and a pinch of salt, stirring frequently until fragrant.

Step One

Add ground turkey, another pinch of salt and cook for about 5 minutes, occasionally breaking up into smaller bits with a wooden spoon.

Step Two

Add in garlic, tomato paste, and spices and cook down for about 2 minutes. 

Step Three

Add sweet potato, tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, beans, water, salt and stir until combined.

Step Four

Bring the pot to simmer, reduce heat to low and cook uncovered until thickened, about 45 minutes.

Step Five

Serve warm in bowls using  your favorite toppings.

TOPPINGS

For the chili toppings, gather together a mix of shredded cheese, sour cream, avocado, scallions, cilantro, and lime wedges. 

SLOW COOKER

Sauté onions, peppers, carrots and a pinch of salt. Add ground turkey and cook. Transfer to a slow cooker and remaining ingredients. Stir until well combined and cook on low for 3-4 hours.

VARIATIONS

Interested in a healthy turkey chili no beans? Omit the beans and add another 1 pound package ground turkey. 

STORAGE

This turkey chili recipe will keep in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days. The chili actually tastes better over the next few days as the ingredients have time to sit

FREEZING

To freeze, place in a freezer-safe container, seal tight, label, date and freeze for up to 3 months. Thaw overnight in the fridge.

REHEATING

Microwave: Reheat in 1-minute increments in the microwave, stirring each time in between, until warmed through. Stovetop: Place a large batch of chili in a saucepan over medium heat and bring up to a simmer, stirring occasionally.
