A review of the The Sweat Series eBook by Beverley Cheng of Born to Sweat.

Guys, I’ve got something pretty awesome to share with you today…
I’ve been following a new exercise training guide for the past month or so, and I think you’re going to want in on the action. It’s made by none other than Beverley, sports model and fitness blogger behind Born to Sweat. If you’re not familiar with Beverley, well let me just say this girl is pretty awesome. She is someone I made an instant connection with when I first started blogging. For one, I have a soft spot for Canadians 😉 (That’s not a lie, I totally love my Canadians) and two, the way we approach our workouts are very similar. We both love a mix of lifting, circuit training and HIIT. And I think chest day is one of our favorites (correct me if I’m wrong, Beverley) 😉
When Beverley reached out to me about her new eBook, The Sweat Series, I was more than happy to give her workouts a test run. I had no doubt in my mind I would love the workouts, because we are basically fitness twinsies. Minus the fact that she is Asian, and I am Caucasian. Plus she is probably a hell of a lot stronger than me and in killer shape. Oh, and she’s a model… so there’s that… Okay so we’re not physical twinsies by any means, more like fitness mind twinsies… am I making any sense? No. Okay, cool.
Alright so like I was saying, I knew I would like her workouts but MAN I was BLOWN AWAY by the entire product and everything The Sweat Series has to offer. It is beautifully laid out, easy to follow, and each exercise has it’s own written description to preface the workouts, plus little cute images of Beverley demonstrating.
Beverley has also done something that I think is pretty cool: she actually created three separate 4-week training programs, divided into Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced. So no matter where you’re at in your fitness journey, one of these 4-week programs is definitely for you!
THE PROS
- great for any fitness level
- easy to follow
- quick & effective
- downloade-able PDFs to phone or tablet
- minimal equipment needed, allowing you to workout in the privacy of your own home
- affordable
THE CONS
- investment in some equipment if you want at-home workouts
- must be able to motivate and push yourself to get the most out of the workout
I can honestly say that I think anyone at any level can benefit from these workouts. I started with a few of the beginner workouts to get a feel for them, and was able to add weight to some of those movements. If you’re more advanced, I’d probably recommend starting with the Intermediate books and working your way up from there. Weeks 5-7 are no joke, especially if you work as hard as you can. I am just getting into weeks 9-12… and no surprise, killer! Another plus to this program? You can take advantage of some warmer weather and GET OUTSIDE. I’ve been able to take these workouts outside with the bands and weights I have, and ended up modifying some of the exercises using my deck as a bench. ANOTHER plus? They’re great for BUDDY WORKOUTS. I had my little sister do an advanced upper body workout with me the other day, and we were definitely feeling it the next day! Sometimes workouts like this are great to do with a partner, so you can push each other and hold each other accountable for all of the reps and duration. Even I fall into the “No one’s watching… 3 out of 4 rounds is good enough” scenario. But working out with a partner can help prevent that!
All in all, like any workout, it is what you make it. So if the workouts seem easy, work faster if you can, or increase the load/weight. If you need to work on form, take your time and nail down the movements before going into the next four weeks.
If you’re in a fitness rut and looking to change up your routine, I can’t recommend these books enough! Watch out Kayla Istines, Beverley Cheng is gonna give you a run for your money 😉
ONE MORE THING. Beverley is offering a discount to FMK readers for her eBooks! Just use the code: mitten15 for 15% off! (not an affiliate link, just helping spread the love!)
